Welcome back to Long Time Caller, First Time Listener, a column where we, Trixie and Katya, give you, the reader, advice. Our answers may not be valuable, but they will definitely be irrelevant. This week, we dug into your deepest insecurities– dating apps, desire for animal companionship, and death.
Volunteering at an animal shelter can provide a chance to interact with animals, without having to care for them full time. It is also a great little nugget to put in a profile on a dating app. And will teach you about embracing life and enjoying every moment of it to the inevitable certain end.
AND? It may talk you into or out of having a pet. If you go there, feed them, clean up their doodles, etc? You may be like, "No, sir" OR "How do I sign up?" No real downside to Deni's advice.
(Full disclosure, I have 5 pets: one Boston terrier mix named Shirley, one chihuahua mixed named Lulu, and 3 cats named Monster, Elvira, and Giles. I also have one spider crawling on the wall in front of me but I don't know their name yet.)
I GOT THE PLANT GAY PR BOX, BITCHES!!!!! Sorry, I know this doesn't belong here. I just wanted to share with THE group of people I knew would get my excitement.
As an "old" with a full head of white/silver streaks running through my once black tresses, I get many a compliment. Most people think that I somehow got it dyed or styled that way. Katya has it right, get comfortable with your aging self. It's natural to get older and you can most certainly do it with style. ❤
To the Old: I, too, am an old. I do not have gray hair yet (genetic luck) BUT I am fat, weak, and wrinkled AF so I can speak from a place of knowledge. I just kind of go "Whaaaatever." We all gotta age and I've always been a big fan of just "being the age I am bc I'll only be that age once". Currently, I'm 41 and that age is almost over. On the horizon is 42 and I'm just like, "Well, 42 contains 2 of my favorite numbers, I have relaxed into being a Crocs/Woods/Camping Lesbian (TM), and I'm now into things like fixing my roof/painting cabinets, etc." I've never been this exact person before and it's kind of interesting to be here now. That said, I AM going to go to a dermatologist to see what she can do about this neck waddle and sudden creasing in my forehead. In other words? Try to love some of the things about aging and then make artificial changes about the rest. Also? Take vitamins and drink water, LOL.
Ha, I love all of your comments. And this was actually really helpful to read. I'm in my late thirties and it's, like, fine, but also I seem to think about it a lot. You know?
One grey hair doesn't mean it's time to pick out a casket and what music you want people to cry to at your funeral; it's time to experiment with hair colour without worrying that you'll never regain your natural colour. I'll just say that agewise I'm between Trixie and Katya (closer to Katya) and have developed a thick white streak in my otherwise mainly dark blonde hair; I conned myself it just looked pale blonde for about a year but now I'm fully embracing the Rogue fantasy. Accepting the new you can mean reinventing who you want to be.
That's my deal too; dark blonde hair that IDK if it's gray or light blonde. Doesn't look gray yet but my Mom went super white in her early 30's and my Dad is 65 and STILL doesn't have a gray hair on his head nor has he lost any hair. Meanwhile everyone on my Mom's side goes bald at 20. So far, no grays that I can see but if something does happen? It will happen with zero warning so that's cool.
Oh I got the best luck really; my dad went grey in his 20s and my mum dyed her hair from her 30s so never saw her greys until post-chemo regrowth. She was so pissed off that mine came in white when hers is iron grey. A lot of my male friends went bald in their 20s and I have to say some of them look better bald.
Yeah, I like bald heads. The problem is that my Great Grandma went bald, LOL. I'm not into that although? Ya know what? F it. I'll choose to like it. My Nana also went pure white. I'm hoping that I go pure white and then have a chic bob. I'm pre-planning my looks. I found a YT'r recently and was like, "Hot damn, that's it! She's the ideal me!" She is in her 60's and goooorg. I won't get THERE but she's a good inspiration haha:

My wife, too. They have gorgeous silver hair and always get compliments.
