Welcome to Unpaid Spokeswomen, a column where we log what we’ve been into this week. Behind the wigs, makeup, costumes, and several layers of irony, we are two humans who genuinely enjoy doing things. Here is a weekly roundup of our unfiltered expert recommendations.
I'm thinking about the leotard for Read U, Wrote U, which Katya apparently sewed in her hotel room the night before shooting and I wonder if it was produced on this machine. If so, the Little Brother firmly belongs in the T&K Hall of Fame!
As someone who works in an anatomy dissection lab/cadaver lab, I wholeheartedly appreciate the Elderly Edith bust and now I’m genuinely considering getting one for the office. This is amazing!
Ok, but when is the twitch stream happening though? Knowing my luck it will be 3 am on a week night for me and my only hope of seeing it would be Haran recording it. So business as usual.
I read this week’s column out loud to my best friend over the phone. We were cracking up at Katya’s journey in garment making being presented as an incestuous love story. It’s so appropriate with a sewing machine named brother. And the callbacks are great. I really appreciate that she’s opened up to share her newfound ethnicity with us, and has offered the insight that a purchased family is a chosen family. I like that Trixie is subverting our expectations by recommending a dental care product instead of Katya and it's fun to picture her begrudgingly enjoying Animal Crossing.
I legit got one of those Switch Lite things that makes you only able to play on a Gameboy specifically to play Animal Crossing bc my wife was sick of me asking to play theirs. I played it one time and gave up. For me, the fun was in seeking and then obtaining the Switch Lite.
Also, I had an awesome cheapo Singer Sewing machine that I bought in 2007ish that had a wonky bobbin/tension but it WORKED. It was my prized posesh but then I sold her to someone for like $15 when we moved to LA in 2009. I was SMAD (sad mad) and bought myself another one approximately 8 years ago. I used it once to make my nephew a wee quilt pre-birth and then never again. (Legit was gonna say 2 years ago and then remembered that he is 7.5 years old so also my sense of time is unreliable. Great.)
I hope Katya's Brother is less temperamental than mine; it hates its own bobbin and is a sod to thread. My poor little Brother is currently languishing in the bottom of my wardrobe :/
I still haven't gotten into animal crossing. Not because I have anything against it but because I don't personally own a switch. I guess it's time to tell me kids to let me borrow their's 😂😂

🎼 I’ve already got your money 🎼 is all I hear in my head when I open these posts. Well played, Trixie. You’ve warned me in song.

Haran is the hero we deserve
Okay, so midnight on a Monday night. Keul.
This made my day. Thank you for the joy!!

I was always impressed by Katya's sewing skills/creativity but now I'm doubly so. Buying a Serger changed my life in terms of clothes making though!
