Period acne is no joke. I am no expert, but from personal experience I can tell you that it often is an indication of much more serious matters. If it's worse around your period it's most probably hormonal and that means that your ovaries might be misbehaving. It might be a good idea to consult your OBGYN and get more comprehensive treatment. I don't want to alarm you and I may be completely wrong. But I disregarded my own symptoms, including bad skin, to the point where at 37 my uterus and one ovary had to be removed. Hopefully I am wrong, but look into it for your own peace of mind.

Re: acne. I developed acne in my mid 20s, after having flawless skin in my teens, when I started using a ton of skincare items. I blame YouTube beauty gurus. Went to like 3 derms, tried prescriptions, antibiotics, serums, BHAs, AHAs—nothing worked, just made it worse. Turns out, all my skincare fixing attempts had totally destroyed my moisture barrier. So I paired everything down and now just do a double cleanse to gently take off makeup (I use Fourth Ray Beauty BFD oil, then CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser) then spray my face with some sort of fancy water (I use the Avene one, but Evian is cheaper) and then the CeraVe PM moisturizer (the hyaluronic acid pulls all the fancy pure water into my dehydrated skin.) And now my skin is good again. Might not work for you if the root cause is hormonal, but if you've been going HARD with topical treatments, it's worth trying to scale back and rehydrate (with water, not oils). Hope that helps!

I also did Accutane for cystic acne, the wicked nightmares and myriad of other symptoms -- a lot of very observable and un-hideable ones -- are no joke, but were worth it IMO. 🤙
